Flashing back to flashy swimwear beneath the scorching Miami Swim Week sun...
When you think of runway fashion and/or bikini shows, swimwear modeling...we may tend to think: ultra skinny, tanned, flawless bodies confidently posing on the sand on some exotic island or floating down a stage amidst a crowd of fashion industry insiders.
The great news is: the industry of swimwear and swim modeling is changing and may be a very different reality than what we've become accustomed to seeing heavily advocated in mens' sports & lifestyle industry advertisements, gracing the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimwear Annuals or funneling daily down our Instagram feeds.
I was beyond thrilled to note this year a clear visible change in the manner of which the largest swimwear industry fashion show had conducted business of displaying, promoting sneak peeks of all the upcoming emerging swimwear collections: castings represented bodies of all sizes, shapes, skin colors, tone, muscle definition...and ages!!
And for a show which typically is focused almost solely around swimwear...it was terrific to see gorgeous one and two-piece designs being paired with beautiful dresses, pants, shiny eye-catching accessories moving down the runway in natural beauty confidently striding in all forms--to groovy beats and unique choreography, creative direction.
The 2017 Miami Swim Week festivities displayed quite a show and no doubt helping shape a healthier and more realistic display of beauty when it comes to swimwear. It's refreshing, cool and beautiful to see the typical archetype definition of swimwear modeling changing and the term "bikini body" becoming altered into a new vision of a naturally beautiful woman confidently dressed in nylon, spandex, who is now actually more representative of the "girl next door."
